ANNOUNCING THE RESIDENTS

Phin Anibal “With backgrounds in both art and behavioral ecology, my work is very informed by wildlife and intersections between perceived ecosystems. After years of keeping my art separate from interests in science, the use of sculptural animal forms for data collection in 2020 changed the course of my artistic practice. I began experimenting with wildlife forms while continuing to pursue interests in materiality. Collection, color, and shape inform many of my independent projects, and I have been collecting materials from various sites for over a decade which I continue to apply to current works. Many of these materials naturally erode the border between my scientific and artistic lives, as they are often found during field work. As an ecologist, I am increasingly interested in applying scientific methodology to the artistic practice, as I find the two fields largely follow the same patterns of hypothesis testing and information sharing, with one project often resulting in the foundations for the next.”

Wanling Mo “The artist’s practice centers on bodily perception and spans painting, performance, and participatory art. She graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts with a major in painting, while also studying performance art outside of the academy; through her academic training, she developed a deep understanding of color and space, semiotics, and the construction of fields. Since then, she has continued to explore the relationship between the body and space through residencies and experimental workshops, gradually developing a perception-oriented creative system grounded in the methodology of “the body as space."

WORKSHOPS with the RESIDENTS

“Materials of the Ecosystem” with Phin Anibal, 20.08, 15-16:30h
Join the artist for a walk through the ecosystem of the Reallabor Fassfabrik site to learn about ecological field monitoring methods and collect material samples including soil, plant samples, and sound. The walk ends with a visit to artist’s studio, where participants can learn about and interact with Phin’s material explorations and artistic methods.

“Flowing Spaces” with Wanling Mo, 20.08, 17–19h
Join the artist for an embodied experimental workshop exploring the relationship between the body and spatial construction. Through vocal vibration, resonance, and shifts in bodily states and movement, participants are guided into an experiential field where the body becomes space. Through interaction and collective movement, they co-create a dynamic, mobile architecture of bodies.

"Perceptual Field" with Wanling Mo, 27.08, 17–19h
Join the artist for a body-based workshop grounded in research on field theory and the body. Through practices involving touch, sound, vision, bodily schema, and spatial dimensions, participants are guided into a field of embodied perception—a lived, corporeal experience. In processes of generation and dissolution, they come to experience the entanglement between the body and the world.

“Crepuscular Walk” with Phin Anibal, 27.08, 19:30 - 21h
Join the artist for an evening walk through the outdoor areas of the Reallabor Fassfabrik in this ecosystem-focused event. Learn about ecological field monitoring methods and how they can be used to study the non-human inhabitants of the site. The walk ends with a visit to the artist’s studio to see how he applies the his field data collection to his creative practice.
